When inflation will start to climb steadily?
Is inflation a world problem right now or just a transitory after the pandemic-induced US specific problem ?
The chart shows that inflation in Ex-US is not here yet & perhaps the real worldwide problem is still deflation rather than inflation, despite the money printing rally. In the US the phenomenon of the higher than expected CPI may be attributed to its quick economic recuperation from Covid, compared to other parts of the world.
This US consumer coming back trend has put a lot of strain on various supply chains, so the inflation spike may be transitory for the next couple of months.
But the real consumer behavior will become apparent after some months when demand will pick up again! So the right question is not if, but when inflation will start to climb steadily!
